A DAY TRIP ON BERNINA EXPRESS

Enjoy a memorable experience on the Bernina Express. If you want to see the marvellous mountain scenery in both winter and summer, then don’t miss the chance to take the Little Red Train.

The journey starts at Tirano, which is 400 metres above sea level, and gradually takes you up to2.230 metres at the Bernina Pass, passing through beautiful villages and woods and by lakes and glaciers along the way. There’s little chance of getting bored during this spectacular two-hour itinerary, and don’t forget to bring your camera (so you can immortalise some enchanting moments), not to mention your passport as you approach the Swiss border at St. Moritz.

This itinerary is available every day of the year and you can choose your times so as to make the best of your day (regional trains with stops along the way leave at either 9 or 9.40 a.m.).

Download the free PDF of the “Little Red Train in Your Pocket” guide so that you can plan your trip.

Trains leave from Tirano, which is 90 minutes from Livigno, passing through the Upper Valtellina valley in winter, and one hour in summer, going through the Forcola Pass.

We also recommend a visit to St. Moritz before heading back to Livigno.
